It was in 1958 that Jan E. Ansteen Nielsson set up a small factory for the production of sportswear in the small Danish town of Hörve located at a distance of about 80 km from Copenhagen. In choosing a name for his company he simply used his initials, that is JEAN, adding the TEX. Thus, JEANTEX was born.

Denmark being surrounded by water, as everybody knows, and biking beinga favourite sport in the country, Nielsson specialises in these major sectors of wear. Hardwearing though heavy waterproof wear for fisher-men and practical and also waterproof wear for bikers are the first products produced and tested by Nielsson himself as well as by his friends.
